Before starting the installation process you should read the preparation info below:
  • Use this post only with the Samsung Galaxy J7 smartphone.
    – Don’t try to flash the files you find in this post on any Android smartphones.
  • The Galaxy J7 that you are about to update needs to be rooted and running the latest TWRP custom Recovery build.
  • In the tutorial you will also find two extra preparation steps: the Factory Reset and the NANDROID ROM Backup.
    – Do not skip any of these steps.
    – The NANDROID Backup is required and you need to apply it in order to set a restore point for your device.
    – The Factory Reset wipes all the data that was previously installed by the old ROM, this will wipe only the system partition.
    – Factory Reset doesn’t delete any files from the internal storage.
  • If you wish to save data from installed apps, then you can use the Titanium Backup.
    – The Contacts info can be synced with your default GMail account.
  • Check the device’s battery charge level, it should be over 50%.
    – That will prevent the Galaxy J7 from switching off during installation.
  • Do not skip any steps and make sure to read the whole guide before starting the CM 13 install process.
  • if you need more help, then you should use the comments field at the end of the post.
How to Install CM 13 on your Galaxy J7:
  1. Download CM 13 zip from here:
  2. Connect your smartphone to your PC via USB cable and copy both zip files onto its internal storage
  3.  Do not unzip these files.
  4.  If you’ve used the phone to download the files, then you can skip this step. Make sure to disconnect the device from PC after the files are copied.
  5.  Power off Galaxy J7 and boot it into recovery mode by pressing Vol up + home button + power button.
  6.  After booting into TWRP recovery, Set a restore point for your phone. Select Backup option and confirm the process.
  7.  Apply factory reset now. Select Wipe option and confirm the process.
  8.  Now you can begin with installation of CM 13 in your phone. Select Install option.
  9.  Find the ROM zip file and confirm the flashing process.
  10.  For now no gapps as flashing gapps will cause your device to reboot in standby mode randomly.
  11.  Reboot Galaxy J7 in normal mode after zip is flashed successfully.
  12.  Note that first boot will take a while to load all files in phone.
  13.  Use your google account to get access to your device and contacts.
Start the CyanogenMod 13 Marshmallow testing process and tell us in comments how’s the new custom ROM behaving on your Galaxy J7 device.
